To make Enamel of a blood colour red. To ftain Enamel of
this colour, take ten pounds of common frit, add to it fix pounds
of glafs of faturn prepared, make all into a very fine powder,
which muft be put into a glazed earthen pot at the glafs-houfe
furnace, to melt, boil, and refine ; after this, call: thereon pow-
der of thrice calcined copper at difcretion, ftirring all about that
they may incorporate together with powder of red tartar until it
be perfectly flamed ; and thus you will have a delicate deep fan-
guine Enamel fit for all manner of work you can defire to apply

Another Hood colour Enamel. This Enamel will be very
beautiful, and may ferve inftead of the rofe colour Enamel here-
after prefcribed.
To make which, put ten pounds of frit for cryftal, and fix"
pounds of glafs of faturn before-mentioned into one of the glafs-
houfe furnace pots; let it melt and purge well ; after this caft it
into water, dry it, and return it into the pot j when it is well
melted again, throw in, at feveral times, five or fix ounces of
powder of thrice calcined copper, ftirring all together with the
iron crook to mix and incorporate them well together, and alfo
a like quantity of powder of red tartar, ftill ftirring it; this be-
ing well boiled and refined, obferve if the colour be perfect; if
not, add equal parts of the powders of copper and tartar, as much
as you find necefTary to bring it to perfection. Let it remain to
boil and purify, trying it again and again, until you find it com-
pletely coloured.
Another red Enamel of a very fplendid ruby colour. The
beauty of this Enamel is very furprifing, and of as lively a luftre
as the ruby it'elf, which it communicates to all the work where-
in it is ufed.
For this fine efFect, we muff, have recourfe to the fufible
manganefe, of which add twenty ounces to each pound of cryf-
tal ground : Let the whole be well purified ; then try the colour,
and, according as you find it, add the greater or lefler quantity
of manganefe, or cryftal ground refpeclively, until it be brought
to its juft degree of perfection, as a ruby, and whkrh ought to-
be very admirable.
Another ballas ruby colour Enamel. The fame manganefe
muft be had to make this fine colour; put ten pounds of cryftal
ground in a glazed pot, to melt and purge at the glafs-houfe
furnace ; throw the matter into water, dry it, and melt it over
again; do thus thrice, and, when the mafs is afterwards welJ
melted, tinge it with the fufible manganefe as before, and it will
