CATALOGUE OF BLAKE’S ENGRAVED DESIGNS

“ Fearing that Albion should turn his back against the Divine Vision,
Los took his globe of fire to search the interior of Albion's Bosom in
all the terrors of friendship,” etc. (p. 31,1. 2).

386. Title-page.

About the title, Jerusalem the Emanation of the Giant Albion, float
five fairy beings. On the moth-like wings of the two nearest are sun,
moon, and stars. According to Damon, these are “ daughters of
Beulah," Blake's “ Muses." Below, 1804 Printed by W. Blake 5th
Molton St.

387. Page 3. Midway down the page, a fairy form with leaf-like wings ;
three others, right.

388. Page 4. Under the heading Jerusalem sits a cloaked woman grasp-
ing a nude male figure, right, by the hair; at the left another figure
eludes her grasp and prays to follow three other figures who float up,
left, and are shown by a spirit the new moon and the stars. Net-like
roots in the right margin.

Damon interprets this design as souls escaping from Rahab (Moral
Virtue) and freed by Jerusalem who points to the new moon of Beulah.

389. Page 5. Up the right margin five female figures ascend from flames
to the sky.

See reproduction, Plate 65.

390. Page 6. Los with his hammer rests one foot on his anvil and looks
up to dispute with his Spectre, which, bat-winged, hovers over him.
Furnace left and bellows right.

391. Page 7. In the margin, right, three nude figures wreathed in flames
of vegetation; the centre one, a youth, stands with lifted hand, the
one below rushes headlong, the one above ascends.

392. Page 8. A child drags the moon by cords across the sky. Text
above.

393. Page 9. Three designs cross the page : (1) A shepherd piping to

Damon, receives the Apple from its jaws) while a man sleeps; (3) A nude
