No. 3. Another similar figure; the arms parallel with,
the sides; the feet close together; on the head a inodius,
Very rudely carved in bone. Height, 2k in.; thickness,
of hone, T2y in.

No. 4. Another, having at the hack a similar figure in
relief, facing in the opposite direction ; the hair above the
forehead indicated by parallel ridges and grooves. On each
side of the face hangs a long tress ; the eyebrows are raised
in relief, and unite with the line of the nose, which is
broad at the base ; the eyelids appear closed. Between
the pair of heads on each side is one ear very rudely re-
presented, and serving for both figures. The arms are
parallel with the sides; the joints of the fingers rudely
indicated by parallel lines. The figures rest on a circular
base notched all round, but the feet are not indicated.
Ivory; pierced at the top, and probably the handle of
some implement. Height, 2T37 in.

No. 5. Female head in high, relief. Over the forehead

neck; the ears are placed forward and high as in Egyptian
art ; the eyebrows in relief, and uniting with the line of
the nose; the eyeballs are pierced. The type seems an
imitation of the Egyptian. Ivory, cut off with a horizontal
joint at the top of the head and base of the neck; on the
back of the relief, which is slightly convex, has been a
lion cut in intaglio, of which the forepart has perished;
he is moving to the left; the ivory is pierced vertically.
Height, ] - in.

No. 6. Female head in high relief, very similar to
No. 5. Over the forehead are zigzag bands, alternating
with plain bands ; on each side of the head hang two
long tresses, represented by parallel oblique lines. The
eyebrows are incised, the eyeballs pierced.

No. 7. Oblong plate of ivory. On one side, in relief, a
female head ; over the forehead are alternate plain and
zigzag bands, probably a conventional representation of
hair; on the right side of the face hang three long tresses,
represented by parallel spiral lines. The left side is broken
away; the ear is placed high; the eyebrows incised, the
eyeballs pierced;, at the back of the plate is incised a
Gryphon, moving to the left; the forepart, as far as the
