E 534. TREFOIL OINOCHOE. Ht. 2} in. Athens, 1814. Burgon Coll. Graceful period,

but drawing careless. Eye in profile. Above, a strip of egg pattern ; on the other three
sides, a thin red line, the whole forming a panel.

Boy walking to r., holding in both hands a rollcd-up mantle (?), which he is
about to lay upon a table on which is a jug with wreath round it. On 1. is a
toy-cart, the shaft resting against the border of the design. He wears the usual
belt across his chest.

E 535. TREFOIL OINOCHOE. Ht. 2^in. Athens (?), 1865. Drawing careless. Panel, as

on preceding.

Infant crawling to r. towards a jug.

E 536. TREFOIL OINOCHOE. Ht. 2x in. Greece, 1873. Drawing very minute and graceful.

Purple headdresses ; brown inner markings. The grapes are in raised varnish colour on a red
ground. Eye in profile. Panel formed by egg pattern above and below, and a red line on either
side (cf. E 548, E 549).

Two boys at play. The one on the r. squats en face on the ground, and
extends his r. to receive a bunch of grapes which his companion standing on the
1. offers him ; each wears a fillet of wool and the usual cross-belt; the belt of
the one on the 1. has been indicated in brown, now nearly faded. Each holds
in his 1. hand the shaft of a toy-cart; on the cart on the 1. is an oinochoe with
a wreath about its neck, and a similar oinochoe stands on the ground on the r.
Above, KA^OZ, AraXo?.

E 537. TREFOIL OINOCHOE. Ht. 3 in. Athens, 1809. Burgon Coll. Surface damaged

with fire. Graceful period, but careless drawing. Eye in profile. Below, a strip of egg pattern.

Two boys at play. One on the r. has apparently just pushed with his r.
hand the other, who falls to 1. upon his r. arm, his 1. leg bent under him ; each
holds a net purse in his L, and wears across his chest the usual cross-belt with
ornaments, and a fillet on his head.

538. TREFOIL OINOCHOE. Old No. 887. Ht. 9J- in. Hamilton Coll. Strong style.

Purple bracelets, stephane and inscription. Folds of drapery arranged in groups of four to
six. Below, a strip of ma;ander ; above, egg pattern ; on the upper end of the handle, a
palmette.

Nike pursuing a bird. Nike, in a long sleeved chiton and bordered
himation fastened on the 1. shoulder, with hair looped up behind over a radiated
fillet and bracelets, runs to r., extending both arms to catch a bird which flies
away from a tendril which springs from the ground and curves round into a
palmette. Above is inscribed, KAVOJ ; beside Nike, NIKON ; ~NUcov /ca\6<;.

mann, Humorist. Vasenb. pi. 1 ; Bull. deW Inst. 1868, p. 219 (Helbig). Drawing free and
spirited. Purple leaves of tree and tongue of snake. Brown hair of Satyr and markings
