E 722. ASKOS. Old No. 956. Ht. 2# in. Magna Grsecia. Durand Coll. no. 53. Drawing of

good period. Brown inner markings. Eye in profile.

(a) Eros, a youth with long wavy hair, flying in a horizontal position to the
r., his hands extended as if holding some object; between them is a circular
object, perhaps part of what he carries.

(b) The same, to the 1.; here the circular object is not shown.

E 723. ASKOS. Ht. 2I in. Rhodes, 1885. Biliotti Sale Cat. no. 21S. Drawing of severe

style and very refined. Brown edge of hair.

(a) Eros, a full-grown youth with long hair, a single tress falling in front of
the ear, flying in a horizontal position to r., his arms extended as if to catch
something.

(b) Nik& in a long chiton with sleeves and a saccos, holding out a dotted
phiale in each hand, flying to r.

On the foot an incised character A-

Drawing of good period. Brown markings of nebris. Eye in profile.

(a) Maenad with long chiton and apoptygma, hair looped up, running to 1.,
looking back. With thyrsos couched like a spear in her r. hand, and 1. arm
extended and covered with a nebris as a shield, she prepares to repel

(b) A Seilenos who steps cautiously after her, his body bent and r. foot
advanced.

On the foot an incised character A.

period and very refined. Brown inner markings.

(a) Ithyphallic mule to v., braying (?), with head down and mouth open.

(b) Mule moving to 1.

In each case the cross mark on the withers is indicated by a strong line of
black glazed colour.

On the foot an incised character A.
