the life of Jesus, as well as the parables he told, and these themes eventually
found their way into literary works composed in the Middle East. The Muslim
artists who iłlustrated these miniatures used other Christian motifs as well. The
Koran does not consider Jesus as the son of God, but as a human and
a messenger of God. The Koran States: “It is not appropriate for God to have
a son” (Sura XIX, verse 35). A favourite depiction in miniaturę paintings is
Jesus as an infant preaching to the people (ill. 5). This theme is based on a scene
