opinions as to who had sent the dream to her. Some believed that it was the
devil" himself, who manifested his presence by tormenting Pilate’s wife
with fears and, almost flogging her, madę her try to release Christ. According
to other theologians, it was an angel16 or Divine Proyidence,1' while Gęsta
Pilati18 madę known that it was Christ himself.

Nonę of the New Testament commentators says what precisely Pilate’s
wife saw in her dream and why she suffered so badly.14 Why would the devil
want Christ released?
