imitating the Madonna of Wrocław type, are of no value to us as the earliest
of these were Baroąuised (.Madonna of Feicbten) or lost their polychromy
altogether (Madonna from Landesmuseum in Kassel) while the colouring of
all later figures is adeąuate to the time of their creation.
The problem whether the Madonna of Wrocław was once “red” will have
to remain open for the time being. Analysis of a broader group of sculptures
is necessary, especially of Bohemian Madonnas, and drawing morę precise
conclusions than the ones we can formulate now. Detailed research on
workshop techniąues would also help to throw light on interrelations
between various Beautiful Madonnas figures where a classical art history
methods are insufficient.
