The earliest example of representation of God as the Father in the collections
of the National Museum in Warsaw is a 17th century icon Resurrection of
Christ which may be related to the Stroganov school (ill. I).24 The icon
depicts Rise from the Grane and The Harrowing of Heli as well as a sequence
of miniatures referring to the events of the Easter triduum and describing the
idea of Redemption. In the upper part in the centre a half-circle medallion
with the Holy Trinity is depicted. White-haired, long-bearded God the
Father is seated on the right, the visage of Christ seated on the left is lined
with a short brown beard. Both are clad in golden robes and a dove
symbolising the Holy Ghost is depicted between them. The agreed upon
