mission conducted excavations on Tell Feheriye. The research was reassumed
by a German mission in years 1955/56. After a long break, excavations on Tell
Brak were recommenced by the British in 1975 and they have been continued
ever sińce. Archaeological interest in this area has increased which gave rise
to a number excavations on large tells of the Khabur triangle: Tell Leilan
(1978, American mission)8, Tell Barri (ancient Kahat; 1980, Italian mission)9,
Tell Mozan (ancient Urkesh; 1983, American mission)10, Tell al-Hamidiya
(ancient Ta’idu; 1984, Swiss mission)11, Tell Mohammed Diyab (1987, French
mission)12, Tell Hazna (1988, Russian mission)13, Tell Beydar (1992, joint
Syrian-European mission)14, Tell Arbid (1996, joint Polish-Syrian mission)15 and
Tell al-Hammukar (2000, American mission). These were complemented by
rescue excavations on the areas assigned for flooding in the al-Hassake region
started in mid-1980s and continued until the middle 90s. Also some surveys
