Plate XVI.

Gold Earrings, with calf-head pendants and various similar patterns derived thence. In Nos.
1-4 the features are marked and plain; in Nos.5, 6, 8-12, 13 and 15 they are less distinct, the
nostrils having disappeared. In No. 7 there is an intermediate stage, the facial features are
marked, but are untrue, while there is a ring in the nose. In all these examples, however, the
ears persist almost uniformly. In Nos. 16-19 tne ears nave become mere balls; the holes for the
ring are lower down on the sides, and conventional designs have taken the place of the lines of
the face. No. 16 is ornate, but not distinct. No. 17 has a sort of rosette and palmette pattern.
No. 18 is quite rude. No. 19 has the conventional design of the sacred tree. The collection
contains nineteen specimens. Found in Phoenician tombs at Dali (Idalium), Aghios Paraskeva
and Ormidia.

14. Antelope-head Ornament. Length of head, i/A inch. Spread of horns, i5/i6 inch.
Surface is dotted with small globules. How used is not obvious, as there are no rings or hooks.
The two sides are practically alike. Found in a vault at Curium.
