i. Axe. Bronze. Brown and green. Length 8 inches. Width at edge i%o inch.
Found at Alambra.
The blade is slim and long (6l/2 inches); flat on two sides and rounding at the edge. The
cutting edge is chisel-like. The handle passed through an oval socket, i l/z inch across, which
is decorated with three transverse ridges.
2. Ornament. Bronze. Dark brown and green. Height i3^ inch. Width i inch.
Height of ornamented surface \y& inch. Found at Dali.
In high relief. Rope border. Scallops and floral designs at centre. The back is faced
with metal. Shrine ?
3. Pitcher. Bronze. Shades of brown, with deep and light green patches. Height 9^
inches; diameter (top) 3}4 inches, (body) about ~]l/> inches, (base) 3^ inches. Found at Curium.
The sides flare slightly from the lips downward for three inches, then rapidly to the great-
est diameter four inches from the bottom. Thence they contract to base. Handle is rivetted to
edge above, and ends below in serpent's head on side of body.
4. Javelin-head or Spear-point. Bronze. Green tints. Length ^S/g inches. Blade 2^
x7/g inches. Found at Alambra.
The blade and the conical socket extend each about two-fifths of the entire length.
5. Strigil. Bronze. Dark brown with green spots. Length of handle 4 inches. Blade
7^ inches. Width varies from Hie inch to a point. Found at Kition.
Composed of two parts: (1) Blade, concave on inside ; thickened at the base where it joins
the (2) Handle, which is of the same piece, bent to form a parallelogram. The end of the handle
is drawn down to form a rivet that passes through the base of the blade. The back of the handle
and the side of the handle are decorated with lines and grooves.
