Plate LXVI.
i. Statuette. Bronze. Shades of green. Height 4 inches. From Curium.
Male figure, nude, erect. Stands on right foot, left being raised behind. Right hand rests
on hip; the left, which originally held some object advanced beyond the body, is gone below the
elbow. Head covered with short curly hair. Surface corroded, except right foot.
2. Statuette, on pedestal. Bronze ; greenish. Height 2>Y& inches. From Larnaca.
Cupid? Nude; standing on a pedestal shaped like an inverted anvil, and decorated on
both sides with dots and geometrical patterns. Figure erect; hair in fringe above head, with a
coil down the back. Wings behind. Right hand holds a bow; left hand is bent back and holds
a long round object (quiver?) over his left shoulder. Right foot advanced. Rope-like object
behind calf of leg.
3. Vase-Handle, in form of a nude female. Bronze. Shades of brown and green.
Height 41%6 inches. From Curium.
The grip of the handle is formed of a curved nude female figure. The feet are attached to
a plate which appears to represent a human face in low relief, the hair being also indistinctly indi-
cated. The arms and head of the figure are bent backward; the hands grasp the upper part of
the plate into which the rim of vase fitted. The head rests on the plate, the two ends of which
represent animal heads. A groove beneath indicates by its curved shape that the whole probably
belonged at first to a trefoil oenochoe.
4. Statuette; mirror-handle. Aphrodite? Bronze. Light and dark greens. Height of
figure, 63/8 inches; total height, 83/J inches. From Curium.
Female figure, nude, erect, standing upon a frog-pedestal, which again rests upon a peculiar
framework resembling a folding-chair. The head-dress or crown shows palmette pattern; is
divided sidewise for the insertion of a circular mirror, which was fastened by a rivet: portions of
the mirror were still extant when discovered. Hair is indicated by lines; curls extend below the
