long and very heavy; mouth flaring and flat on top, with a very small aperture. Rough handles
or ears on two sides. Body is an elongated ovoid, roughly hollowed out inside. Shown one-third
of true size.

5. Vase or Jar. Striped alabaster, showing layers of the stone. White and shades of
pink and light brown. Height 9% inches. Diameter (at bottom) 14^ inches, (top) ny2 inches,
(aperture) 4% inches. Found in a Phoenician tomb near Citium (now Larnaca).

The bottom is slightly convex; sides slope inward to a short conical neck and flaring top,
the upper face of which is convex. The interior is excavated, and the sides are comparatively
thin. Shown one-third of real size.

6. Alabastron. Semi-translucent stone of opaline color. Height 15^ inches. Diameter
(just below handles) 6 inches, (mouth) 5V16 inches. Found in a Phoenician tomb near Citium (now
Larnaca.)

The body is amphoroid in its general shape, with a rounded foot and a flaring neck and
mouth. Two ears or handles, one broken. Interior is hollowed out like exterior. Shown one-
third of true size.
