CHAPTER VI.
From his second visit to Kapilvastu till his
return from that place.

<jjjO;uddha, on reaching Kapilvastu stopped on
the bank of the Kohini, in the vicinity of
the city, and there in presence of the king and his
followers performed many magical feats which
took them with surprise.
The king bowed at the Blessed One’s feet and
invited him to an entertainment the next day.
The Buddha conceded to the request, and with
all his disciples, clothed in hermital garb, and
alms-bowls in their hands, walked to the palace of
the kino'. The latter came out to receive them,

and startled at the behaviour and appearance of
the Buddha, he remarked.
“Why master do you put us to shame ?
Why do you go begging for your food ?
Do you think it is not possible to provide
