now Wormier/, in Hertfordshire, which the king a second time confirms to this
church, and grants it privileges, by his letters directed to William, Bishop, and
Leofstan, Earl. This land is afterwards confirmed by William the Conqueror.
Thurstan gave Chilchelle, or Chilcheya, in Middlesex, which he before held of
the king, to this convent; which gift is confirmed by the king, in a grant of
privileges directed to Robert, Bishop, Olgod, &c. This place was afterwards
granted by charter from William the Conqueror, in which it is called Chelchea.
Guthmund gave land at Helveden, or Kellden, in Essex, before mentioned,
which was afterwards, among other lands in that place, confirmed by Edward the
Confessor's charter ; and a second time by William the Conqueror. This Guth-
mund gave, likewise, land at Kcync and Lacedune, which received a similar con-
firmation.
Alser gave land at Ligetun, or Lugetun; and at Lersne, or Lesnes, in Kent.
Ingulphus gave lands at Pecclesham.
Tofti gave lands at Claygate, to which King Stephen granted liberties and
immunities, and confirmed those given ; as did King Henry II. after him.
Leofric gave Ingeddesdon.
Alfwar and his son Siward gave half a hide of land in Agmondeskam, or
Amersham, in Buckinghamshire ; and one in Weodune, or Watton.
Alfric gave Wenstcde, now Wanstead, in Essex.
Almundus, or Almodus, being a monk of this church, gave to it St. Botolph's
gate, in London, called his Lord's Court, with the houses and a wharf at the head
of London bridge, in Southwark. This was afterwards confirmed by William
