PLATE IV.

THE CAPITAL AND ENTABLATURE OF THE EXTERIOR ORDER.

The eaves joint-tiles, terminated in upright pieces, first rounded at the top, and afterwards
indented, or scolloped. The ornament formerly painted upon them is almost wholly obliterated.
The lower course of tiles was formed in blocks twice the length of the ordinary tiles: the joint
took place over the centre of every triglyph.

A. Section of the lower part of the column, through the centre of one of the flutings, shewing
the sinking made in the pavement wherein the columns were placed.
