Woltmann was tlie first to attribute these pictures to « the Saxon school,
connected with Granach ». He maintainedthe same opinion in his articles
on Grunewald in Dohme’s « Kunst und Kiinstler » and the « Allg’emeine
Deutsche Biographie ».

Eisenmann introduced the expression « Pseudo-Grunewald », regarding
this supposed artist as Cranach's teacher or fellow-pupil.
