Signature : monogram in centre near foot of plate.
Date : perhaps 1497 (or earlier ?).
Watermark : ‘ bull’s head.’ (Ha. 1).
There are impressions before, and with, a scratch over the thistle.
An earlier and simpler treatment of the subject afterwards elaborated, under the
influence of Politian’s poem, into the magnificent composition known as “ Nemesis.”
If the latter title be definitely adopted, as it should be, the epithet “ Little ” commonly
applied to this engraving of “ Fortune ” is superfluous.
