The road from Orchomenos to the lake of Stymphalos, which 1
designed to visit, was over a mountainous track, and, according to
all accounts, difficult and dangerous to pass after the recent accu-
mulated fall of snow; but I was so miserably lodged in the cottage
at Kalpaki, Avhere the snow and rain drifted through the fissures of
the roof, that I was resolved to quit it as soon as I had seen every
thing which the place contained.
