ITALIC TOMB-GROUPS: NARCE 42M

19. Cf. No. 13 from Narce 4 F PL XII which is prac-
tically identical except for the pattern on the base and
thus provides an important link with this tomb; see also
the comparanda cited under this number.
20. The pattern on the shoulder, if carefully applied,
leaves a reserved meander as on an amphora in Berlin
from the Polledrara estate, Vulci, Montelius, PI. 260, 6
(= Furtwaengler, p. 22, 192); StEtr. V, PI. XXXII,
2 from Tarquinii; and MonAnt. XV, PI. XVII, 4 and
col. 242, i. Cf. also Thera II, 135, Fig. 312, CLR.
VI-VII, p. 79, Fig. 89 and the bone handle from Narce
23 F, PL XI.
21. The thin clay and the general shape show Proto-
corinthian influence, but neither Early nor Middle
Protocorinthian skyphoi provide an exact counterpart
for the profile because of the sagging line above the base.
The closest parallel seems to be Montelius, PI. 326, 10
from Barnabei’s Tomb LXI, Narce, a chamber-tomb.
NARCE 42 M
No information is preserved in regard to this tomb. In
the catalogue the provenance is given as Narce; the letter
M after the number implies that it was dug by Mancinelli,
and that is all, except the record photograph.

D. 0.22 m. Rim chipped. Fabric of medium fine tex-

Grooved rim. The
painted patterns are
