them, whose arch is covered with amber and the rest are
of simple bronze and have in some cases rings attached.
Nos. 3 and 4 are a pair of spirals. The various objects
marked 16 are the largest of the paste rings. The two
pieces marked 15 were small gold bullae. Tiny balls of
gold were found in the dust and a number of beads for a
necklace. The bone marked 14 was all that was left of
the body.
This list does not tally with the list of objects pre-
served in the Museum and catalogued as coming from
this tomb. That one fibula, No. 24, is of gold not of
bronze evidently escaped Frothingham’s notice. On the
other hand the three bullae, No. 31, are of bronze not
gold. Only one paste ring now remains and there are
no “tiny balls of gold.”
Pottery
1. Vase-carrier. PI. XXIII. M.S.993, H. 0.143
m., D. 0.115 m. Intact. Fabric of fine texture, brick
red throughout. Central bulb made by hand; flaring
top and base on the wheel; covered, except the inside of
the foot, with a cream slip on which red design is painted;
a zigzag between bands on the flaring top, horizontal
bands on the bulb, a zigzag between bands on the foot.
2. Amphora. PI. XXIII. M.S.994a, H. 0.105 m.,
D. 0.116 m. One handle modern. Fabric of medium
fine texture, black at core, outer surface brownish buff.
Handmade. Once covered with a cream slip now largely
effaced. The red design consisted of a red band below
the lip and about the body of the vase two zones of zig-
zags between bands. In the strap handle are counter-
sunk two triangles and two dots. The shape is the same
as that of spiral amphorae.
3. Lid. PI. XXIII. M.S.994b, D. 0.049 m. In-
tact. Fabric of fine texture, buff throughout; clean and
well baked, so that no slip was needed to serve as back-
ground for the design. Wheel-made. Three string
holes, one through the knob, one on either side. Two
bands on knob, two about the outer margin. Between
them tongues.
4. Stand. PI. XXIII. M.S.999, H. 0.075 m., D.
0.124 m. Intact. Fabric and technique as in the fore-
going. On the outer surface horizontal bands. The
concave portion of the upper surface is solid red. Four
groups of six transverse lines connect this area with a
band about the lip. Two string holes.
5. Stand. PI. XXIII. M.S.998, H. 0.084 m., D.
0.116 m. Intact. Fabric of medium fine texture, red-
dish brown throughout, covered with a cream slip.
Handmade. On the outside four rows of zigzags be-
tween bands; on the upper surface of the rim eight lat-
ticed squares. The ornament within the concave por-
tions of the top has disappeared.

Handmade. Good polish. Strap handles. Incised zig-

ture, buff at core, outer surface black. Handmade.
Good polish. Handles, rounded at the top, are grooved
vertically and widen to a broad base at the shoulder.
