Maccfesheld School of Art
Headmaster: Mr. Thos, Cartwright A.R.C. A.
gives genera! courses both elementary and advanced in Drawing, Painting,
Modelling and Design, to about 260 students.
The scheme of work in design is arranged specially in connection with the
!oca! textile industry and is in conjunction with the practica! course in silE
weaving, the students having every faciiity for carrying out their designs in the
actua! materia!, as illustrated in the exhibit. The accompanying co!our print
has been reproduced by permission of the Board of Education.

has for its specia!ity the practica! designing of !ace for curtains, etc. In
the Lace C!ass 70 students from 14 to 20 years of age are in training. The
curricu!um inciudes Drawing from iace and other fabrics, Object Drawing,
P!ant Form, and study of Hand = made Lace, Conventionahsing Piant Form,
Historic Ornament, Principles of Ornament and Lace Design.
Secondary Sdhools
The art teaching in Bng!ish Secondary S<hoo!s is represented by an ex^
hibit from schools displayed on the walls and also in boohs,- the latter chiefly
show experimental courses in various directions. The Schools are taken alphas
betically.
Bedales Sdhool, PetersheM, Hampshire
is a Coeducational Boarding School of about 170 pupils from 11 to 18 years of
age. Drawing is a regular subject in the curriculum. No marks are awarded
in any subject. The work is in line, tone and colour from good examples,
nature and common objects,- imaginative studies, design and composition are
taught. The School Drawing Certificate is given for 6 set studies executed
without assistance at any time during the course of study.
Bla&heath High School, G.P.D.S.7
has 450 pupils including the Preparatory Department,- the ages range from
5 to 20. Eighty minutes per week is the time devoted to drawing. The
