Man Aester Grammar School
has 890 boys, of whom 730 take drawing for 1% hours per week. The maxL
mum marks given to drawing in the Upper Schoo! on the classical side is 60
and to classics 700/ in the Lower School on the modern side 80, English and
German each 450. The elementary course comprises Outline from Ornament
and from Nature, Brushwork of the same, and Mode! drawing from common
objects. The advanced work is Plant drawing and painting, Design, Shading,
Geometry and Ma&inedrawing.
St. Paul s Boys School
600 boys, of whom 490 take drawing. The ages are from 12 to 19. Time allot-
ted to trawing varies from 1% hours to 2 hours per week, some attend twice
and a few three times,- 50 marks are the maximum for each period. The curri-
culum is arranged in preparation for the various professional entrance examina-
tions taken by the boys. The exhibits show Architecture in preparation for the
Architectural Association's examination,- Ma&inedrawing, showing the standard
for entering the S&ool of Mines, or the City Guilds Institute. Model drawing
shows the standard of work for candidates for the army, Woolwi&, Sandhurst
and Indian Police. Shading from the cast gives the accuracy of drawing in light
and shade whi& can be accomplished by a s&oolboy. The Pen and Ink work
shows by line how form may be expressed without undue manipulation. The
specimen of Landscape is to show how outside and holiday work in a Public
S&oo! is encouraged.

numbers 320 girls from the ages of 10 to 19. One hour per week is given in
the lower part of the s&ool and E/^ hours for painting and shading. Marks are
given as for other subjects. In the Lower S&ool Memory Drawing and Brush-
work are taken,- perspective, black and white and colour in the Upper S&ool.
A model is posed once a term throughout the s&oo! and a composition given
