MEETINGS OF THE COMPANY AND MEMBERSHIP
The Meetings of the Court were not held at
regular intervals ; seemingly only when occa-
sion called. To take one of the earliest
examples of which there is a record, in the
year 1614 there was the Statutory Court of
Election on February 10, and the next meeting
was held nearly three months later, on April
28, 1615. Nor was there a regular rule about
the Meetings of the Assistants. It was not
until 1630 1 that the company decided that
for the future “ for the better and more
speedy regulating divers business of the com-
pany which are far out of order ” the Assist-
ants should meet once a week. Three months
later 2 the stress of business both at home and
abroad was so great that it was resolved to
hold meetings of the Assistants twice a week.
From the earliest days of the re-organiza-
1 Min. February 3, 1630. 2 Min. May 9, 1631.
