1 Edward Barton remained ambassador until his
death, January 1, 1597. I have been unable to discover
whether he was succeeded by any one before Pindar, or
whether Pindar was his direct successor. Pindar is
first mentioned in the minutes under date November
4, 1614. But as the minutes of meetings before 1614
are lost, it is impossible to say when he was appointed.
