and therefore steps were taken to prevent the
English cornship from sailing.

knowledge of the company that there was
a breach between Venice and Turkey. The
company hastened to obtain an Act of State
prohibiting English ships from serving the
Venetians against the Turk. Their reason is
once again self-protection : “to prevent the
danger and loss that may redound to the com-
pany in their estates in Turkey.”
