INCUNABULA.

Johann von Armsheim. The first cut depicting the Creation of the World is a single block,
the rest are each composed of two or three blocks. A woodcut precedes each „Artickel“.
In this copy which contains all the twelve cuts in very fine impressions, the
firstand the fourth 1. of Register and the last 1. with the colophon are missing. Otherwise it is a
very large copy, stained in places, with a small hole in the 2nd 1. of Register, with loss of a
few letters.
Only one copy in U. S. A. (acc. to Census).

This interesting work deals in its first part with the standard of life of learned men; the
second part treats of the prolongation of life; in the third the author teaches mystical, astral
medicine. The book contains also chapters on headaches, diseases of the stomach, dietetics, etc.,
further astronomical and philosophical treatises.
Amerbach gave three copies of this book to the Basel Charterhouse in 1497 or 1498.
Nice copy, a few old marginal notes, the last 11. slightly stained, stamp on title.

4t0. Gothic letters of two sizes, 33 lines, 91 unn. II. with sign., the first
blank (the last blank is wanting), a few capital spaces, rubricated throughout.
O n the 2nd and third leaf a nice painted initial, the first with a
floral border in red, green and yellow, some initials supplied in red
and green, partly with pen decoration. Wooden boards, back covered with old
deerskin. Frs. 700.—

Probably EDITIO PR1NCEPS. The very rare first dated edition of this often printed
metrical treatise. Nice and finely printed booklet from the first press of Reutlingen. One of the
few products of this press with the printer’s name and place.
John Garland was an important Latin grammarian, born in England, but mostly living in
France. He lived in the XHIth cent.
Well preserved copy of this nice booklet, the first leaves quite insignificantly stained.
