1568. 8VO. Title printed in red and black. With 61 remarkable wood-
cuts, mostly by Virgil Solis. 24 of them being copies after the Little Passion
by Albrecht Diirer. Each page surrounded by a woodcut-border on crible-
ground. Vellum. Frs. 240.—
Nagler, Monogr. V, pp. 269—70, quotes an edition of 1562; of which ihe present one seems
to be a reprint. The book appears to be of great rarity, neither Bartsch nor Heller having
seen copies of it and the present edition apparently being entirely unknown to the bibliographers.
There are 61 fine woodcuts of which 36 bear the monogram of Virgil Solis; 12 of
them are taken from Diirer’s Little Passion and 11 designed after copper-engravings of
Diirer. At the end is a small woodcut showing the Adoration of the Shepherds and
the Baptism of Christ with the printer’s device of Neuber below.
A good and perfect copy, with fine impressions, but somewhat stained by use throughout
and slightly foxed in places; a few leaves are mended in the margins.
