the town park at Hamburg, both modern, are working out these great perspectives (Fig. 628).
Schumacher in particular, the designer of the Hamburg park, attempted to get an imposing
effect by combining the large lines of the perspective (Fig. 629) and the ornamental grounds
and playing-fields with picturesque plantations between them, especially by making edges
