Dürer, continued:
219. The Virgin with a monkey.
B. 42, D. 22, M. 30 a. A very fine and effective, though not very early Im-
pression, but without any of the attributes mentioned by Meder for
the later qualities. On paper watermarked with Meder No. 260 which was
used already by Dürer about 1511 (see M. page 316). Shaved to the plate-mark,
otherwise in excellent condition.
220. The Holy Family with a Butterfly.
B. 44, D. 4, M. 42. Superb Impression, printed in a rieh black ink, probably
M. a, as the little cross at the right temple of the Virgin is very clear and Strong,
though the impression is printed on paper with a later watermark, vize M. 46.
Just shaved within the plate-mark. In very fine condition.

221. The five Apostles.
B. 46-50, D.76-77, 97-98, 103, M. 45, 47-50 The complete series in very fine
impressions, two of the prints in Meder’s «a» and the other three in his «b» quality.
B. 46 and 50 cut close, the others with very small margins. With some thin spots,
otherwise well preserved. B. 46 from the Coppenrath, and B. 47 from the Ham-
minger collections.
222. St. Christopher, facing to the right.
B. 52, D. 96, M. 52 a. Exceedingly fine, with some surface-ink left on the
plate. Shaved to the border-line. Somewhat repaired at the back.
223. St. George, Standing.
B. 53, D. 46, M. 55 a. On bull’s head paper. Very fine, with narrow margins.
In excellent condition.

224. St. Eustace.
B. 57, D. 32, M. 60 a. Impression of the greatest brilliancy and beauty on
paper watermarked with the anchor in circle. The tip of the upper right corner
a little torn and shaved just to or within the border. A tiny spot strengthened
at the back, otherwise in excellent preservation. - One of the finest landscape-
etchings of Dürer’s work.

225. St. Anthony the hermit.
B. 58, D. 91, M. 51. Exceedingly fine, uncut impression with good contrasts
and with narrow margins all round the plate-mark. In perfectly fresh con-
dition. Rare in this quality.

226. The penance of St. John Chrysostom.
B. 63, D. 12, M. 54. Very good, without the scratch on the leg. Cut close and
slightly restored. Watermark: star M. 6.
227. The Satyr Family.
B. 69, D. 42, M. 65 a. A brilliant, early impression, printed in a fine black
ink. Cut close and with two thin spots. Otherwise well preserved. From the
Basnine collection.
228. The Sea Monster.
B. 71, D. 30, M. 66 a. Brilliant, exceedingly fine and sharp impression, with
all the attributes for Meder’s «a»-quality.
Shaved just within the exterior borderline. With 3 or 4 very slight brownish spots
in the sky, otherwise in faultless condition. Watermark : high crown, W. 20a.
