ARE YOU A VOTER ?

The original electoral rolls in connec-
tion with the first General Election to
the House of the People and the
Legislative Assembly of the StaM? under
the* New Constitution will be made
available to the public of the KalimpOng
Subdivision for inspection at the follow-
ing place:—

'Block Mandals Offices for Khasmahal
areas.

Cinchona PlantationOffrees at Kongo

tation areas.

, Tea Garden Managers' Offices for
their respective tea garden -areas.

Police station at Kalimpong and
Gorubathan and Sub-Division Kutchery.

EverJ person eligible to be a voter
under the Representation of the People's
Act and who has not been previously
enrolled is hereby requested to present
himself at the appropriate centres for
enrolemont. This supplementary enrole-
ment will commence on ltl-8-50 and
conclude on 31-8-50 Persons who have
already been enrolled may also verify if
their names have been included in the
printed roll to be hung up at each centre

Any person who is an Indian citizen
and was 21 years of ago or above on
1-3-5(1 and who was ''ordinarily resident"
in any place in West Bengal for not
less than 180 days in the period from
1-1-47 to 31-12-49 would bo eligible for
inclusion in the electoral roll for that place.

A voter must be an Indian citizen
belonging to'any of the following three
categories, A. 15. and ('. (India means
India as now understood).

(A.) A person would be an Indian citi-
zen if he had his domicile in India
on 2G-1 50 and if.

('0 he was born in India or.

(6) any of llisyparenjj* was born

in India or.

■ •(<•) he has been ordinarily resident
in India for not less than 5 years
immediately be|ore 20-1-50.

(For practical purposes a person
will be deemed to have his domicile in
India if he has taken up fixed habita-
tion in India with intention to reside
here always.)

(B.) A person who migrated from Pakis-
tan to India before 19-7-48 would
be a citizen it'.

('/) he or any of his parents or
grand parents was born in undivided
India (i.e. including Pakistan) and'
(l>) he lias been ordinarily resident
in India since his migration.

(C.) A person who migrated from Pakis
tan to India on vjpr after 19-7.48
but beforo 25-7-49 would, be an
Indian citizen if he applied for and
obtained, registration as an Indian
citizen b 'fore 26-1-50 and possesses
a citizenship certificate such a per-
son must produe his citizenship
certificate at the onrolement oontre.

(It must be remembered, that refds-
tration as citizens is quite different from
registration as refugee.)
