meeting. It has been
learned that the iinancial
position of the Kurseong
Municipality and its mana-
gement was the subject
of discussion.
Sri K. Sen, also
visited the Pusparani Hoys
II. K. School and Kaj
Kajeswari M. E. School
unit made enquiries about
mode of teaching and
rcoiw of teaching in these
institutions.

hotsava " National Tree
Planting " at local Mela
Ground. The staff and
students of St. Joseph's
Convent, Boys & Girls' of
High School, were present.
Th» girls made the func-
tion colourful by their
Bongs befitting the occasion.
The religious Lima band
from the Bhutia Associa-
tion also adde i to tho
items. The function was
largely attends I an 1 th'
weather was exceptionally
bright. After the addresses
g ven by the S. D. O. Dr.
B. K. Bhattacharya. Sri.
S. S. Mandal and others
spoke on the subject
The saplings were planted
all around the Mela ground.

public in the tree planting
drive was very promising.

significance and value. He
then referred to the utmost
need of spread of educa-
tion among the people of
Dnrjeeling and in course
of his speech promised to

official visit on the 27th
June 1051. A meeting
took place in the Gorkhi
Public Library Hall and
the hall was packed up to
its capacity.

Kurse >ng was in the chairs.
There was a concert
at the b'ginning. Then
Sri X B. Gurung on behalf
of the G D. N. S. delivered
an address for his kind
and considerate public
actions, when he was the
S, D. O. at Kurseong.
Sri Sen first recalled
his sweet relation witli
people of Kurseong. Ho
then described the changes
"vhich took piace during
his absence from this dis-
trict. He pointed to the
material improvements
which took place since 18th
August, l!)47, in this
district.
He narrated the tread
of Indian history to show
how India absorbed all
various treads and ten-
dencies in the past, into
one. He impressed upon
the audiance the Mad of
a cultural assimilation
(synthsis) in the district
