KALIMPONG—THE BEAUTIFUL......

Kalimpong win go to polls on the

15th inst. and people are eagerly
awaiting the day. 'there are only two
candidates lor the .State legislature-
Gajendra Sinha BhandaH ( congress ) and
Lulit Bahadur Kharga ( communist. ) and
both the candidates are busy with their
programme of edm Ming the voters. Both
of them are young a id are ful y kn w i
to their electorate. Mass meetings are
being organised throughout the sub-
division and speeches are made eulogising
the qualities of the one and deprecating
the other. The congress platform is
used for recounting the many achievents
of the Congress during the past years
promising better administration and assu-
ring of happier days while the Commu-
nist platform is used only for denoun-
cing the Congress Government with no
policy of their own. The responsibility
of the electorate is very great indeed.
They liaye to listen to all but they
should 'exercise their own will before
casting their votes in favour of a par-
ticular party. Besides several other
factors their is one great thing in favour
of the Congress. They have been in
power for the last several years, and
they have learnt by. experiance and it
is hoped that their experiance will stand
in good stead in our future prosject.
A new Government will have to begin
from the very beginning and we have
not the time to make more experiments.

There is very little enthusiasm here over
the election to the House of t:»e Peoples.
A K.Basil is the Congress condidaU* * lor

the General seat and he is being opposed
by L R.Jossee who has the support of
the Gorkha League. In this case also
the people will have to decide for
themselves whom to elect.

Till now election campaign in
Kalimpong has been very peaceful and
we are sure that whatever else may
happen we will not allow the name of
Kalimpong to bo tarnished. Kalimpong
as a whole is Beautiful, it is quiet, it
is serene and it should he the effort
of every individual, every party and
every community to maintain these
qualities of our Himalayan Land whether
in peace or in election fever.
