RACE FOR SPEED-

in Kalimeong the mcrea-ang number of motor
accidents give rise to soiions considerations bv the
ant liorities. Generally speaking there is no chock
on speed limit in the town and it is no uncommon
scene in the Bazar to see motor vehicles racing
at any speed. That tens of people are not knocked
down every day in the Bazar is no index of*
cautious driving. Kvt*n jeeps belonging to res.

“ ponsible offc rrs of the Government do not hesitate
to take part in this race for speed We do not
mean to suggest that the department concerned is
sleeping over the matter but certainly tlieie is
less vigilence in the mat-r than it deserves.

GURKHA LEAGUE PUBLICITY-

Addressing a public meeting in the Mela
Ground here Sri George Mahbert, ( G. I,. ) M.I, A.
from Siliguri Kurseong -said that the press was
veiv partial in as much as very little publicity
was iriven to the activities of the All India
Gorkha League We do not know how others
feel about it but we are not prepared to acc.-pt
this statement. Instead of hurl ng stones on
others it would be b tt.-r if the new M I„. A.
looked more earef llv into their own publicity
tiles and lint! out how many statements have
been issued to the press and how many <>t them
have not been published. Their cwn. journal is
published in a language which is understood by
them only and had they de-ired others to under-
stand their vie\vs they would have chosen a moiv
widely understood language side by side their own.

CORRECT VERSION

Dear Sir, Though it is not our
habit to contradict every time numerous
misrepresentations by the papers about
the All India Gorkha League and its
activities I feel it necessary this time
to state categorically that the All India
Gorkha League did not enter into any
ramshackle arrangement w.th any other
party to contest the e’ec‘ on anywhere.
The All India Gorkha League did not
take any part in the el ction so far as
it related to the Kalimpong assembly
constituency. However, in the absence
of our party candidate our members
and supporters were left fr e to support
any party or candidate of their choice
in their individual capac t v. This liberty
was enjoyed by our members not only
in Kalimpong but all over India in
constituencies where our party did not
set- up an official candidate

Therefore, it would be not only
wrong but malicious as well to suggest
that the C. I’. I. appeared to he fully
supported by the Gorkha League in
Kalimpong We regret that your paper
could not verify the truth from our
olTice b fore going to press yours etc.
H. S. Sharmi. Asst. Secretary All
India Gorkha League
