a long standing need of
the amatuer artists of
Kalimpong has been ful-
filled.

On Saturday, 19th
April, much activity was
to be observed in the room
situated at the back cf

the Mission Book Stall
and pedestrians on the
C'howrasta were surprized
to see a sign-board being
hung out marked ART
GALLERY’. Yes, The
Kalimpong Artists’ Club
was actually in being and
its Art Gallery open to
the public, who soon floc-
ked in to see what it is
all about. Admission is
free.

At present there are
some 25 pictures on view
mostly, as would be expec-
ted, covering various as-
pects of the Western Hi-
malayan motif.

The venture—which ie
is hoped will recivef
support from residents ot
Kalimpong, its adjacent
tea estates and tourists—
is designed to encourage
and assist development of
the talents of local artists
and to have an art gallery
where their works may be
displayed, either purely
tor exhibition or for sale.
To this end it is proposed
to arrange lectures, de-
monstrations and field
sketching days.

For those who wish
to purchase any picture
that is for sale, the Cterk
i/o Mission Book Stall is
authorized to transact
such sales.
