SWISS BID TO SCALE
EVEREST

Kathmandu. Nov. 8
The Swiss expedition
to Mount L wrest is now
in South Col and “most
probably'’ launching the
final assault on the 2:1.002-.
foot high p'-aU, a source
in regular «'onta<d with
the expedition said here
yesterday.

The source said accor-
ding to latest information
the mountainneers had
crossed the western CWM
and pitched camp live at
about 22,700 feet two
weeks hack By the end
of next week the fate of
the. second Swiss bid to
compter tin* world's highest
peak would have been

decided, though it mav
not be known to the world
before end of this month
or even later due to the
time needed for messages
to come down.

The weather was re-
ported satisfactory in the
latest message and all six
mountaineers were in good
mettle.

The establishment of
the fifth camp at about
22,700 feet indicates that
the Swiss are closely adh-
ering to the route of the
first Swiss expedition early
this year which had pit-
ched its fifth camp at
22,(>;>() feet. Progress of
the final effort depends,
mostly on the efficiency
of the improved Oxygen
