ONE SEPOY DIES IN
TRUCK ACCIDENT

Darjeeling, Feb 11

On the 2nd February
1953, at about 8 p. in.
a Military Lorry with
rations was proceeding
towards Darjeeling when
near the Retreat • a passen-'
ger car. going in the oppo
site direction appeared.

disconnected and chassis
badly damaged. The Mili-

to haul up .'the vehicle in
parts. The Bloomfield Re-
serve Police ran . to the
spot and rendered first,
aid after which the oceu
pants were removed to the
Military hospital at Le-
bong One of. the sepoy
dud yesterday and the
others are reported to be
p rogress i ng satisfac tor i lv.
It is learnt that the Mili-
tary authorities have held
an enquiry but their fin-
dings are not known, but
from personal experience
it is suspected that care-
less driving was the rea-
son.

SENTRY CREATES HAVOC

Siliguri, Feb. 11
One Treasury Sentry
with a loaded gun created
a havoc on the night of
Feb. 9 here when he came
in a shop situated on the
main road and demanded
imm^diatesupply of drinks.
L'he owner of the shop
it is reported, refused
to serve him whereupon
lie got furious and raised
the guif to shoot him. On
this there started a scuffle,
.By this time a batch of
constables on night patroje •
came there and ’ tried l.o

nabildar of the party was
informed. The Habildar
and his: party some how
managed to overpower th§
Sentry and took him
to the Police Station. One
person' of the Police party
got injury. ’ on /the face
when the scuffle was going
on. The Sentry is repor-
ted to have been drunken
when he entered the shop.
TEACHER MURDERED

Recently a young man
was murdered in Mam-
ring village about 15 miles
from -Kurseong, The de-
ceased, a teacher in the
local village school was
brutally struck with a big
stick on the head from
behind in av marriage fes-
tival. He succumbed to

5th Feb., which-was the

nation papers for the en-
suing Municipal Flections
there; Altogether 21'can-
didates have filed there
nomination papers. The-
date for, serutiny .of. the
nomination paper has been
fixed on 1.-th.. Febfu.iry
and the Elections' will be
held on the L4tb of March.

A MAN MURDERED

one - of his relatives in a
viliage under Khoribari

P. S.' according to infor-
mation received here. It
is stated that the dead
man went out of his house
at day time with the wife
of his relative, and came
at 1 o’clock in the night
when he was challenged
by the husband of the
woman who accompanied
him and there arose a
quarrel and the'husband
hit the man with a lathi
which resulted in sponte-
neous death of the man.

his injuries on the
following evening. The
murder, a young man of
20 is under police custody •
and} further investigation^
is proceeding.
