LABOUR TROUBLE IN
TEA ESTATES

Kurseong, Feb. 13

Armed police force
was rushed down tiiis
morning from Darjeeling
to the Kahaiii Tea Estate
about 8 miles from Kins

bit s have started. Police
aid had to be called in
when labourers started
looting and destroying

official sources have put
the loss of property at
many thousands of Rupees
Similar labour trouble*
had broken out in the.
Arnbotia Tea Gardens a
place about 5 miles from
Kurseong when the women
labourers of the gar-
den severly beat their
Munshi. Armed, police had
to bn rushed there to
maintain peace and order.
As the police is mounting
guard iu these two gar-
dens peace is being main-
tained at present.

3 DIES IN GARDEN
FIRE

Siliguri, Feb 16

Recently in a tea
garden 20 miles away from'
here a family consisting
of four persons received
BovVre burn injuries when
their thatched bouse cau-
ght -fire. The fire made for
the purpose of warming
the inmates of the house,
caught the entire house
where the family was sleep-
ing. It is staled that the
fire was left nnextiripushed
when the family went to
bed- late at night, and it
spread out engulfing the
entire thatched hou-ie from
all sides. Son ami dau-
ghter. died on t He next
day and the husband and
wife were ad lo tted i n the
local Hospital. The wife
died after 8 Java.. The
husband is reported to
be progies.-ing.
