MISSING GIRL SURREN-
DERS IN COURT

Darjeeling, April 15
Jharana Banerjee, a girl
student of the Government
College, Darjeeling surren-
dered in Court on Satur-
day last here along with
one Sri Sen.

It is alleged that
Jharana Banerjee was kid-
napped by the accused.

She caused a regular '
stir in the Court when
she refused to go back to
her parents and preferred
to stay in the house of a
well known physitian here.

T he defence is that
the girl left the house of
her parents of her own
free will and accord and
that she contracted a valid
marriage with the accused
according to Hindu rites.

Slim, chic and bespec- ,
tacted the girl appear-d
to be absolutely cheerful
in Court.

Sri B. N. Sinha with
Sri N. Kusary and S B.
Mitra appeared for the
main accused while Sri
S C. Gupta appeared for
another accused.

Tho Magistrate direc-
ted that the girl be kept
in the custody of the phy-
sician and refused bail to
the main accused.

An application, it is
understood, has been filed
before the sessions Judge
for the accused to be
enlarged on bail.

NEW METHOD OF
CULTIVATION
Kajimpong, April 15

A Training Meeting in
connection with tho cam-
paign to increase ri<5e
production in the country
wis held on 13 4-53 in
the local Town Hall which
was largely attended.
Khasmnhal manduls and
local cultivators took great
in'erpst in the meeting.
Sri S. N Bov, S. D. O.
Kalimpong presided and
in his opening speech he
explained about the pre.
sent food shortage in the
country and the efforts
of the gev°rnment to attain
self sufficiency by the help
of the .various irrigation
projects like Mayurakshi
etc and mher similar mea-
sures. ITe urged local
cultivators to work hard
and co onerato with the
government in the food
production drive and thus
bring prosperity for them-
selves and the country.

had come to Kalimpong
for the above Training
Meeting explained about
the new method of rice
cultivation and the use of
chemical fertilisers. He
also explained about the
various facilities afforded
by government to the cul-
tivators regarding thj

popular Poet of Nepal
Shri Dharamraj Thapa,
gave a recital of his poems
in Nepali. --

Shri U. N Sinha, the
Vice ( hairman of the Mu-
nicipality and himself a
writer of repute m Nepali,
was voted to the Chair.

Shri Dharamiaj Thapa
has Written soul-stirring
poems in simple and ele-
gant Nepali. Apart from
being a poet of the peo-
ple, singing for the people
and ligating for the down-
trodden Nepalies, ho is a
radio artiste of great
renown.

His rendering of his
composition in melidions
tune accompanied by cho-
rous provided by Shri
Hira Kumar Singh and
compauy, thrilled the
audit nee and kept them
spell bound for thiee solid
hours.
