WARM RECEPTION TO

DHARMARAJ THAPA

Takdah, May 20

A warmth reception
was given to Sree Dhartna-
r.-i j Tliapa the popular
Poet of Nepal at the pro-
mises of Griffith's School
by the students, visitors
and people of Takdah.
The function was presided
over by Srimati Asoka
Gupta. A large number
i f people and- students
from surrounding schools
garlanded the Poet along
with folk-songs. Sri Nepal
Chandra Rose, , Deputy
Ranger also sang a Nepali
folk-song.

Sri I’. T. Dong in his
introduction speech said
that the, poet was ben
at a place called Pookhra,
bundled miles away from
Katmandu, where other
poets like Bhanubhaktaand
l.ekhriath were also bom.
He was educated at his
village primary school and
finally in a High school
of Katmandu. Ho is the
only Son of his father.
Once he was pres^, reporter
of Gorkha Patra in Nepal
during Rana regime, where
he organised a strike of
the press workers to de-
mand increment of their
salaries. After fulfilling the
grievances lie resigned from
the post Then he started
singing in the midst of
common people and by this
wav lie roused enthusiam
in them towards the coun-
try. He was jailed for

a poem on K L. Singh.

The poet in his recital
narrated how the culture of
India was related with tha,t
of Nepal. He said Vanu-
bhakta would not have
achieved such fame if he
would not have translated
Ramayana by Kavi Tulsi.

The Poet’, . melodious
tune greatly influence the
audience. It was the
hearty cO-operation of Sri
P. S. Lama that made the
meeting a success.

cellent attraction in the
performance and was pla-
yed by local children.

Again Singh Tamang, the
renowned Nepali Poet of
Apaian Salfitya Parisbad,
Gaogtck.
