COW SLAUGHTER IN CHRISTIAN'
SCHOOLS

Delhi, June 25
The following letter has been addre-
ssed to the principals of all Christian
Schools in Darjeeling Dial, by Sri Harden.
Salmi, Secretary, Bharat Go-Seva Samaj,
Delhi. " •

‘Dear Sir, I take the opportunity
of writing this letter to.. you holding you
as a philanthropist. It is quite evident
from the roporfc oubmfitea by the Experts
Committee appointed by the Central
Government and per Section 48 of the
Indian Constitution, the cow slaughter
cannot be done in our country It is
true that our Government is obliged tit
present not to hurry up the total banning
of cow slaughter, due to certain difficul-
ties, lmt. it is also certain that it -will'
be prohibited in West Bengal as well
as it is banned in PEPSU Rajasthan,
Punjab, Madhya Bharat, Madhya Pradesh
and Delhi etc. . •

Therefore, I request you to kindi'y
lend us your' co operative hand in our
anticow slaughter compaign in; the
followings, respecting the noble sentiments
of the CHORES of the people,-the Indian
Constitution and the larger interest of
the country •

1 You will totally disallow the
use of beef in your institution.

2. Persons under your influence
will be advised and suggested well by
you never to slaughter the cow nor to
eat beef.

3. You should try that the West
Bengal Cattle Slaughter Control Act,
1952 under which the slaughter of the
cattle under 14 years or useful ones is
prohibited, enforced in the whole of the
Darjeeling district also.

4. The following extraction or
quotation will show* you that according

to the doctrines of Christianity cow
slaughter should not be permitted.

And when you spread forth your
hands I will hide mine eyes from you:
yea, when ye. make many prayers, 1 will
not hear: your hands are full of blood.

slew a man: he that sacrificeth- a lamb,
as if he cut off a dog’s neck.

valuable and practical suggestions in this
regard from time to time'.'’' ',

FACTS AM) 1'IGPHKS

1. Between August .15, 1947 and
Dececmber 31, 1952 consent, was giyen
for the issue of foreign capital in India
amounting to Rs.-.21.60 erores.

2. When the:Government of India
takes over the Barsi Light Railway on
January I, 1954 out of a total mileage
of over 34.000 -miles of Indian railways
only 553 miles will be under non-govern-
ment management.

3 Indian production of fan belts
rose from 298,486 in 1951 to 567, 7,00
in 1952.

4 Indian production of opium
declined from 10,685 maunds in 1950.-51
to 7,035 maunds in 1951-52.

5. The total rent collected by the
Government of India during 1952 53
from residential buildings under the ad-
ministrative control of the Central P.W.D,
was about Rs. 85 lakhs

6. More than 13 erores of signalling
operations were carried out by the Indian
Posts and Telegraphs Department during
last year.
