JAPANESE METHOD OF PADDY
CULTIVATION

In order to provide greater incen-
tive to cultivators to adopt Japanese
method of paddy cultivation in this State,
it is proposed to award a community
prize of lts. 1,000/- to a village that would
put down the largest acreage under the
Japanese method in each district while
two priz.es of the same value will be
awarded in each of the three districts
of Midnapore, Burdwan and 24-Parganas,
while a prize of Us. 3,000/- will be
awarded at the State level.

For conducting the competition,'the
following ruhs are to be observed:—

i) Any village which would put down
a minimum of 10 plots of 1 acre
each, Ik longing to different cultiva-
tors, will be eligible for entry into
this competition on payment of-
annas eight only per plot of 1 acre
each. •

ii) The minimum number of entries
for the three districts of Midnapore,
Burdwan and 24-Parganas t-fiould
be 200 whilfe that for the rest. 11
districts should be 100.

iii) A committee at the Sub-divisional
level constituted of Extension Staff
of this Directorate. Government
administrationanfl Community Deve-
lopment Project authorities, where
they ex.st, would judge the process
of cultivation adopted in competi-
tior’s plots and check the acreafc)
thereof. Personal of this CommitJFe
will be shortly communicated.

iv) The present District Crop. Compe-
tition Committee would collect and
compile reports received front Bub-
divisional Committees and declare,
the winner.r>

v) The present state Crop Competition
Committee would declare the winner
at the State level.

WANTED a secretary for the
Darjeeling Municipality possessing the
following qualifications and on emoluments
as noted below :

The post is permanent but the selec-
ted candidate will be on probation for
a period of six months during whioh
period he will not be entitled to bouse
allowance.

Qualifications:

(1) A graduate of a recognised uni—
v.esity.

12) Experience in secretarial or ad-
ministrative works for at least.five years.

Preference will be given to a.candi-
date having experience in Municipal sec-
retarial and administrative works.

Age : Between 35 and 45 years. ■
Emoluments :

(1) Basic' pay Rs. 300-25-400.

(2) Ad-iiiterim pay at Rs.,15/-p.'m.

(3) Dearness allowance at 12.) % of
basic pay. ■

(4) House, allowance Rs. 50/- per

month (fixed) <•

The selected candidate will hav.e to
furnish security' deposit, as may be de-

termined.by the Commissioners hereafter.

Application must reach the under-
signed on or before the 31st July 1953.
Candidates called for interview shall bear1
their own - expences.

crop competition fortnight due to begin
from 15th of this month and strive to
make the scheme a success.
