FULL LENGTH COLOUR FILM
OF EVEREST ASCENT

A full-length feature
film in colour is being made
on the conquest of Mount
E verest, to-show the world
the full sequence of this
great British achievement.
The film is expected to
have its British premiere
in October.

It is being made by
two companies with the,
backing of the National
Film Finance Corporation.

It will show the ex-
pedition's work from the
preparatory stage in Bri-
tain to the ultimate pha-
ses nt the conquest of the
world’s highest peak. The
film will be produced from
camera records of the
climbs taken by Mr. Tho-
mas Stobar't, who, because
of previous . cjirr.bs in the
H imalayas and his profe-
ssional ■ experiences in film
making all, over the world,
.was oney of very few ca-
meramen in the world
capable of accompanying

BACKWARDNESS OF
NEPALESE IN INDIA

Gangtok, July 11

In a meeting of the
Nepalese held at Gangtok
on July 12, it was de' ided
■ to support the movement
launched by Sm. Maya
Devi Chettri M P. (Con-
gress) to get the Nepali
community, in India recog
nised a? backward com-
munity, so that the Govt
of India policy of safe-guar-
ding the interests of the
Scheduled Castes,Scheduled
Tribes and Backward enm-
mur.ities may be extended
to them.

EXCISE PEONS

Applications are invi-
ted from candidates bet-
ween the ages of 20 and
25 for the posts of Excise
Peons state on temporary
basis in the scale of
25-1 '2 35 with usual dear-
ness anil nt her allowances
admissible. They are lia-
ble to be discharged with-
out previous notices when
so required.

The candidate . must
be of sound physique and
the height, should be 5'
chest 30"-32''.

Preference will be
given -to candidates who
are literates. Applications
stating name, age, address,
father’s name experience
if any should reach the
Superintendent of Excise,
Darjeeling on or before
25th July 1953.

SIKKIM STATE CONGRESS
LEADER ARRESTED

Gangtok, July 11
Sri Jorgay Lepcha>
President of the Chung-
thang branch of the Sikkim
Stats Congress, with two
others were, arrested at
Magan handcuffed and
brought to Gangtok in
ropes, on alleged offences
under sections 107, 353,
117 1PC and 107 Cr. T’. C.
After three days detention
they were released on bail.
Sri Jorgay, interviewed
said that ho and his
freinds were innocent of
the charges. According to
him, tho trouble arose ns
he was preparing to go to
Jongu in North Sikkim—
a private estate of the
Maharani, for Congre.s

AT GANGTOK

Gangtok, July 11

In a public meeting
held at White Hall on July
12, presided over by Sri
B. K. Sukhani, Managing
Director of Messrs Jetmul
Bhojraj, it was decided to
accord a fitting public re-
ception to Sri Tenzing
Norkey Shcrpa, the con-
queror of the hitherto un-
conquered Mount Everest,
when he returns home
from abroad and imme-
diately after tho function
in Darjeeling.
