At the project sites, townships
having a total of over 1,100 permanent
structures have been erected to house
the staff In addition to schools and
dispensaries in some of them, which
cater also to the surrounding villages,
other amenities have been provided. The
Corporation’s centra) soil laboratory, tim-
ber and mechanical workshops and stores
and godowns are located at Maithon.
The D V. C. has attracted workers ^
from places as far off as Bilaspur,
Chibbar and Santhal and engineers irom
all parts of the country. People from
diverse regions are thus cooperating in
a common cause.
From this Rs. 89-crore scheme,
irrigation benefits will accrue to a total
area of 1,025,762 acres and the power
generation capacity will be of the order
of 274,000 kw. In terms of money the
increase in national wealth at present
rates will be nearly Rs. 38 crores per
annum through more food, jute and power.
With the promise that this scheme
holds out to the people of the valley
in particular and the nation in general,
the unsophisticated villager looks forward
to the future with hope and confidence.
Despite all inconveniences, he is ungrud-
gingly willing to give his best to the
early fruition of this great enterprise
