TRADE ENVOY IN WESTERN'TIBET
Gangtok, Aug. 12
The Government »f India has decided
to appoint an Indian trade representa-
tive at Taklakote in Western Tibet, it
is officially announced. He will be res-
ponsible to the trade Agent tor Western
Tibet, who has his headquarters at
Gartok, and looks after-the interests of
Indian traders and pilgrims to Kailash
and Man SuVowar. The Trade Agent in
Gartok is in turn responsible to the
Political Officer for Tibet, Sikkim and
Bhutan who has his headquarters at
Gangtok .

There is another Indian Government
| Trade Agent at Yatung, a Tibetan out-
j post on the borders of Tibet and Sikkim,
j In the last three years the volume

j of India’s trade with Tibet has increased
J considerably. The main markets in Tibet
fare at Taklakote, Gyanirna,- Pulling and
Nabra which, are busy from April to
October when, the mountain passes are
free of snow and - mule caravans can
negotiate them.

Borax, vak tails, butter and wool
are the principal cqrqmodities -brought
by the Tibetan traders for' barter with
sugar molasses, salt, soap and hardware
from Indian traders

Malaria in epidemic form has been
causing great anxiety in the lower sec-
tion of the Rongo -Cinchona Plantation,
writes Sri 0 B. Rai, Secretary, Rongo
Kiilain Bagan Ma/.door Sangha

More than six hundred cases have
been reported since July last & both
the plantation hospital and Public Library
Hall are reported full of patients

Attention of the Government has
been drawn for their taking immediate
steps to arrest the epidemic.
