BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Kalimpong, Sept. 18

The 53rd Birthday celebrations of
Dr. Graham’s Homes, Kalimpong will
be held on 24th, 25th & 27th September
and 14th to 18th Ootober, 53.

The following are the programme for
Saturday the 17th October, 53.

2-30 p m. Gathering in Jarvie Hall.
Birthday gifts will be received.

This cup along with a number of indivi
dual cups were presented by Lady Mount-
batten of Burma to encourage Hindi in
the Homes The cup goes- to .the best
all round cottage. The individual cup
goes to the best all round child for his
or her knowledge of Hindi and India.

SPECIAL EVEREST'POSTAL COVER
New Delhi Sept. 18

A first day cover will be issued by
the Posts Gaudhi Javanti Day Oct. 2,
when the Everest commemorative stamps
will ba released This cover contains
a picture of Tenzing on the ■ top of
Everest holding an ice axe with flags.
The words “Everest Vijaya’ in Hindi
and the date of the conquest ‘ 29-5-53”
appear at the top of the picture.

‘NAMASTE’ INFURIATES OFFICER

INSISTANCE ON ‘GOOD MORNING’

Kalimpong, Sept. 20.

Twenty four merchants of Kalimpong
held, a protest meeting here this evening
against the reported odd ways of a local
government servant who, the merchants
say, gets infuriated if they greet him
with ‘Namaste’ in his office. He wants
them to wish him ‘good morning’.' The
merchants in the meeting have resolved
to send a writen protest against tfae .
oddities of the officer to the Deputy
Commissioner, Darjeeling and to the
local Sub-Divisional officer.

It is further reported that the
officer is very much annoyed with these
merchants because they did not contri-
bute to a certain charity fund which
he was raising for a ba.t'ch of collectors
■ in coloured dress-which visited Kalim-
pong recently. .

FRIENDS’ UNION’ ANNEX SHIELD
Kalimpong Sept. 17

In the finals of the Sudama Mishra
Football Shield played here yesterday
evening between ‘ Friend’,Uiiion’ and the
We Eleven’ the former won by one
goal to nil. The play was well contested
cud although .'We Eleven’ lost the game,
they gave a determined figb.t and it is
creditable that they lost by one goal
only to Friends Uunion which is consi-
dered to be the premier team of the
District. -‘We Eleven’ is a new team
sponsored by the Kalimpong Clul .

Organisers of'.he ‘We Eleven’ team
were at home to their players and suppor-
ters at a dinner the same evening.

This cover will be sold for one anna
will and be available at all important post
offices by Sept 28. A special cancellation
stamp will be used on Oct. 2.
