CHINA AGREES TO

India’s Trade

New Delhi,

The Government of the
People’s Republic of China
has agreed to discuss out-
standing matters with
India in regard to Tibet.
The negotiations will be
held in Peking in Decem-
ber.

Issues arising from trade
relations, facilities for In-
dian pilgrims and certain
postal and telegraph estab-
lishment in 'i ibet will be
on the agenda.

For many years traders
of both countries have
been permitted to cross
the Tibetan border with-
out a passport. Simple^
registration on arrival hasi
suffic d.

India has three trade
agents in Tibet.1 They are
at Yatung and Gyantze in
Eastern Tibet and at Gar-
tok in Western Tibet.

to this region the promi-
nent items are cotton
piece goods, jeggery, sugar, '
iron and steel, tea, tobacco,
cigarette and salt. The
total exports in 1950 51
were estimated at 65,000

It will now be necessary
to discuss how trade can
be further facilitated bet-
ween the two countries,
in tlie altered political
circumstances:

mountaineering school at
Darjeeling—the - first of its

ed to open in March. Pen-

cipal of the Swiss School
of Mountaineering, who is
assisting the West Bengal
Government and the Go-
vernment of India in draw-
ing up a schenie 'for the
proposed mountaineering
school, discu-sed on Tues-
day the preliminary plan

at Writers’ Building. Cal-

Survey of Birch Hill

Dr. Glatthard, accom-
panied by Major B Sen,
Administrative Officer, N,
O.C.. West Bengal left by
air -on Tuesday for Dar-
jeeling. During his stay
in Darjeeling, Dr. Glatt-
hard will survey Birch
Hill which lias been pro-
visionally s leeted by Dr.
Roy as tho site for the
purposed school. If this is
found unsuitable, Dr. Glat-
t hard w 11 choose another
