PEACE TAlKS

With the tension spots
spreading from Korea to
Trieste and on to British
Guiana, the decisions of
the Western Big-Three
foreign ministers come as
draught of solace, howso-'
ever transient it may be.
Their agreement to propose
a five-power conference
between themselves Russia
and China on Korea and
other problems of the Far
Bast has happily coincided
with the. Peking radio’s
announcement that China
and. North Korea would
participate in the prelimi-
nary discussions on the
proposed political {confe-
rence ’on October 26. It
may be hoped that in view
of the heavy stakes invol-
ved in the failure of the
conference the move of
the Big-Three foreign
ministers to call a five-
power conference would
widen the membership of
the conference which is
expected to settle the
Korea'n issue. That would ,
: naturally turn the aeross-
thetabje talks into round-,
tlie-table, talks. ..Yet, it
u.would be premature for
the neutral.visage of India
to break- into smiles over
the success of its idea.
So long J'kuith Korean
Syngman 1-thee . is allowed

to remain irresponsible
and irrepressible. the
chances of a final settle-
ment of the Korean issue
would remain remote.

DICKENS' "A TALE OF
TWO CITIES”

Daped by St Augustine's boys

A dramatic perfor-
mance adapted from Dic-
kens’ famous classic “A
Tale of Two Cities ’ was
staged bv the students of
St. Augustine's School for
three nights in succession
ending with a well attended
show at the iown hall
on Oct. KHh.

The hoys gave an
excellent exhibition of
dramatic talent and the
characters of the play
were well represented by
all the actors, outstanding
among whom were. D.
Yuihok as the Marquis
de St. Evremonde, J. T.
Surkhana as Lucy Manette.
Tej Raima as Sydnoy
Carton, M. Pradhan as
Madame Defarae and .J.
Biswas ns Charles Darney.

The costumes, scenery
and stage-effects left,
nothing to he desired and
proved essential in rende-
ring- the play most effec-
tive. ■
