DEARNESS ALLOWANCE

TO TEACHERS

Darjeeling. Nov. 10
From the beginning of
the financial year, t h 0
Government of West Ren
• gal had agreed to increase
their share of the dearnrss
allowance to secondary
teachers .in. n^n Govern-
ment schools from Rs 5/-
to 10/- provided sHib'd
v authorities al-o made a
similar increase in th»ir
contribution. This would
bring the total Dearness
Allowance f,r a teacher
to Rs.20 per month. Some
of the^schools have s»nce
represented that it has not
been possible lor them to
increase their revenue to

dition as Government de-
cision was convoyed to
them in the middle of tho
session. Under the cir-
cumstances Government
have agreed to relax the
condition of makihg an
equivalent contribution,
upto December 1953, in
case of those schools only
that have been unable to
raise necessary funds for
meeting this extra expen-
diture. From January,
3 954 however, recognised
secondary schools will he
expected to make an equal
contribution of Rs. 10 lor
Dearness Allowance per
month, per teacher.
